Why Olive Wood?

Because your kitchen deserves better than plastic.

Olive wood is naturally antibacterial, incredibly durable, and safe for every pan you own — no coatings, no chemicals, no compromise. Just solid wood from century-old Tunisian trees, carved to last a lifetime.

Naturally Antibacterial. No Coatings Required.

Olive wood is one of the densest hardwoods used in the kitchen. Its tight, closed grain leaves almost nowhere for bacteria, moisture, or odors to settle — a property that's made it a staple in Mediterranean kitchens for centuries. Our pieces are finished with food-safe oil — never varnish, lacquer, or paint — so the surface that touches your food stays natural.

Gentle on Pans. Kind to Your Food.

Olive wood won't scratch nonstick coatings, enameled cast iron, or stainless steel — it's the utensil your cookware wants you to use. And unlike plastic tools, it never melts against a hot pan edge or sheds microplastics into your meals. Cook with confidence, stir with something solid.

Buy Once. Use It for Decades.

Olive wood is dramatically harder than beech, bamboo, or pine — the woods behind most kitchen utensils. It stands up to daily stirring, scraping, and serving that wears cheaper tools down to the landfill within a year or two. With simple care — hand wash, dry, and an occasional oiling — an olive wood spoon outlives dozens of plastic replacements. That's better for your kitchen, your wallet, and the planet.

Carved in Sfax, Tunisia — From Trees Older Than Any of Us

Every Willow & Spoon piece is carved from Chemlali olive wood — a variety native to Tunisia, where olive trees have shaped the landscape for over 3,000 years. No tree is ever felled for our utensils: the wood comes only from pruned branches and century-old trees that have finished their fruit-bearing life, fully traceable from grove to workshop. Artisans in Sfax hand-carve each piece, and because the grain grew over a lifetime, no two are ever alike.

Simple Care, Lifelong Companion

Olive wood asks for very little: hand wash with warm soapy water, dry right away, and give it a light coat of food-safe oil when it starts to look thirsty. That's it — no dishwasher, no soaking. Treated well, it only gets more beautiful with age as the grain deepens and darkens.
