Care & Maintenance Guide

Your handcrafted olive wood pieces are built to last a lifetime with simple, mindful care. Olive wood is naturally durable, naturally resistant to odors and staining, but like all natural materials, it benefits from proper treatment.

Every Willow & Spoon piece is a unique work of nature. Because olive wood is a living, organic material, it may feature natural variations in grain and color. You may also notice tiny surface lines or "checking." Please know this is a normal and beautiful part of the wood’s character. These are not defects, but signs of the wood’s authenticity as it breathes and adapts to its environment. Regular oiling will keep these natural features hydrated and your piece strong for decades.

BEFORE FIRST USE
Gently rinse your olive wood piece with warm water and mild soap, then dry immediately with a towel. Apply a thin coat of food-safe mineral oil or beeswax and oil using a soft cloth. Allow the oil to absorb overnight, then wipe off any excess. This initial seasoning helps protect the wood, enhance its natural color, and extend the life of your piece.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS

  • Hand Wash Only: Rinse with warm water and a mild soap. Never soak the wood, and never place it in the dishwasher.
  • Dry Immediately: Use a clean towel to dry the piece right after washing. Allowing olive wood to air-dry completely before storage prevents moisture damage.
  • Oil Regularly: To maintain the rich color and protect the grain, apply a thin coat of food-grade mineral oil or beeswax using a soft cloth, every 2–4 weeks. Let it rest, then wipe off any excess.
  • Avoid Extreme Temperatures: Do not leave olive wood next to stovetops, heaters, direct sunlight, or inside hot ovens. High heat can cause cracking or warping.
  • Keep Away from Long Water Exposure: Extended contact with water may dull the finish or cause the wood to lose its smooth texture.
  • Remove Stains Naturally: For stubborn spots, rub with half a lemon and a pinch of salt, then rinse and dry thoroughly.
  • Maintain the Finish: If a piece begins to look dry, faded, or rough, simply oil it, olive wood responds beautifully and quickly returns to its natural glow.

With these simple steps, your Willow & Spoon pieces will only grow more beautiful with time. Every use enriches the grain. Every meal adds character. These pieces are made to serve you for decades—and to tell a story while doing it.
